PRESS RELEASE: Laying the Evolution Gauntlet!   Issued 3/2/2016

Scientist, Charles Darwin, lived and worked in Downe, during his time

part of Kent, now part of the London Borough of Bromley, for forty years

of his life.  On the anniversary of his birth, 12th February, author,

Ewa Prokop, is sending a copy of her children’s book, ‘Darwin’s Wild

Pursuits Around Downe’ to 12 primary schools, one in each of Kent

County Council’s districts incorporating Ashford, Canterbury, Dartford,

Dover, Gravesham, Maidstone, Sevenoaks & Swanley, Shepway, Swale,

Thanet, Tonbridge Wells, Tonbridge & Malling.

Ewa said ‘I’m sending out the birthday presents to help raise the profile

of Darwin’s work in the county and to challenge schools to consider

whether they are fulfilling the requirements of the new National

Curriculum by teaching evolution and inheritance to Year 6 students’.

The book includes fourteen stories. The stories give the reader a chance

to eavesdrop on discussions between a wild, native animal and Charles

Darwin, where he explains some of the scientific investigations he is

doing. The stories are all located in real places around Downe and are

based on many true facts gleaned from writings of Charles Darwin and

his family. ‘The Truth Behind the Fiction’ may be found on the website alongside a list of the scientific messages conveyed through the stories and lesson plan ideas.  The book is available from the usual outlets ISBN: 9781780914305.
